Mention Bukit Jambul Country Club and it certainly triggers familiarity among avid Penang golfers. Located only five minutes from the airport, Bukit Jambul Country Club was originally carved out of 130 acres of hilly, rugged and rocky jungle. Once considered remote, it has transformed into a well-developed area comprising high-rise apartments, houses and factories, and the most imposing, a par 3 away, sitting majestically on the highest peak, is the Hotel Equatorial Penang.
Reputed as one of the most difficult and tightest courses in the region, this golf course is an exciting avenue for golf lovers to discover their potential. Tee shots must be carefully placed and properly executed in order to avoid the many rock passages and dense jungle that surrounds the fairways.
The average size of the Bermuda grass greens is approximately 5,000 square feet, but the undulations and vicious breaks of the grrens test golfer-putting skills to the utmost. Those used to faster greens will probably be rewarded, although downhill putt can still be a daunting task at times on this course.
With the presence of so many doglegs and blind holes, sighting the pin and some of the greens is rather difficult. In these instances, forget trying to execute perfectly planned approaches. In order to make the course more accessible for golfers at a skill level, Robert Trents Jones Jr designed the steep hilly holes to play downhill. From many of the elevated tees, golfers can spend a pensive moment appreciating the beauty of the island. In fact, the view of Penang island from the golf course is so enchanting that it is easy to forget about the demands of the course. To unwind,
